Utah Department of Corrections (2007)

Began my law enforcement career in the Uinta 2 maximum-security gang unit. Working in one of the most challenging correctional environments in the state, I developed deep expertise in gang behavior, organization, and suppression strategies — experience that would shape much of my career in public safety.

Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office/ Unified Police Dept. (2008–2023)

Patrol Deputy – Millcreek and Midvale (2008-2013)
Served the community on patrol, responding to emergencies and building relationships with residents and local businesses.

SWAT Operator & Explosive Breacher (2010–2015)
Selected to serve on SWAT, conducting high-risk operations and receiving advanced tactical training. Served as an explosive breacher responsible for critical entry operations during dangerous incidents.

Metro Gang Unit Detective (2013–2016)
Assigned to the Metro Gang Unit with a mission to identify, reduce, and prevent criminal gang activity.

• Led complex gang investigations
• Built intelligence networks
• Worked proactively to prevent violent crime
• Taught gang awareness courses at high schools, colleges, and annual Metro Gang conferences to educate both law enforcement and the community

Sergeant – Patrol (2016)
Promoted to Sergeant and returned to patrol in Midvale, one of the highest gang-crime areas at the time. Supervised officers responding to major violent crimes, including multiple homicide investigations.

SWAT Team Leader (2017–2020)
Returned to SWAT as a Sergeant and Team Leader.

• Planned operations, trained, and led a 40-member regional SWAT team
• Coordinated operations between Unified Police, South Salt Lake Police, and Unified Fire Authority as well as outside agencies, both local and federal.
• Oversaw mission planning, training standards, and tactical readiness

Metro Gang Unit Sergeant (2018–2020)
Led the Metro Gang Unit through critical incidents and long-term investigations targeting organized gang crime.

Lieutenant – Magna Precinct (2020–2023)
Served as Second-in-Command of the Magna Precinct.

• Supervised approximately 45 officers
• Managed an $8 million operational budget
• Oversaw patrol operations, investigations, and community policing efforts

Deputy Chief Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office (2023–Present)

Selected by Sheriff Rivera to reform the Law Enforcement Bureau and oversee Professional Standards, including:

• Training and range operations
• Internal Affairs
• Policy development and accountability systems

Currently appointed as County School Security Chief, responsible for training guardians who will be armed in schools within the county. Served on the School Security Task Force at the Utah State Capitol to help guide statewide safety improvements along with Representatives, Senators, and various leadership from the Utah State School Board.
