Your Future Davis County Sheriff

Hello, my name is Zach Van Emmerik. I was born and raised in Davis County and have proudly called it home for most of my life. I have been a lifelong Republican, deeply committed to the values that make our community strong—service, integrity, accountability, and personal responsibility.

After graduating from high school, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where I served in the infantry and learned the importance of discipline, teamwork, and leadership. Those lessons have guided me throughout my life and my career in public service.

When my military service ended, I wanted to continue serving others, which led me to a career in law enforcement. I began my career at the Utah State Prison before joining the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office. In 2010, when the office transitioned into the Unified Police Department (UPD), I served in a variety of roles, including patrol, SWAT, and the Metro Gang Unit. I was later promoted to Sergeant, leading teams in SWAT, patrol, and the Metro Gang Unit. In 2020, I was promoted to Lieutenant, serving as the Executive Officer of the Magna Precinct.

When the UPD and the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office separated, Sheriff Rosie Rivera appointed me as Deputy Chief over the newly formed Law Enforcement Bureau, where I helped build and lead the new bureau from the ground up.

Throughout my career, I have worked to build strong teams, enhance community safety, and uphold the constitutional rights of every citizen. I believe deeply in law and order, limited government, and the conservative principles that keep our families and communities safe.

As your Davis County Sheriff, I will continue to focus on public safety, deputy wellness, and mental health, while ensuring our department remains a trusted, transparent, and effective partner in protecting Davis County. Together, we can preserve the values that make this county a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
